Discontinuing Support for WD Passport Integration in FiLMiC Pro

In the next release of FiLMiC Pro - v6.10.5 which is due to be released in January 2020 - which features a brand new library rewritten from the ground up, we will be removing support for the Western Digital My Passport Wireless Pro and Wireless Pro SSD. After much deliberation we have decided to remove support thanks to the advancements made in external drive support included in iOS 13.

The native Files app now includes support for most external hard drives and offers a fast a reliable method for backing up your FiLMiC Pro shot video. FiLMiC Pro users will also see performance improvements using this method. Unfortunately when relying on an active WiFi connection to be maintained to transfer files while FiLMiC Pro is running, this generates additional heat and causes instabilities when filming as a result. This is why filming in Airplane mode is recommended for optimal device performance.

If you wish to wirelessly backup your FiLMiC Pro footage to your WD Passport Pro, simply pair your drive via WiFi under the iOS ‘Settings’ menu, then copy your footage from the iOS 13 Files app > On My Device > FiLMiC Pro folder to your Passport Pro using the WD My Cloud app. This process is demonstrated in the following video:

For those of you who use the WD Passport Pro as an integral part of your workflow, please do not update to v.6.10.5 when released in January 2020 until after your project is complete, and you can migrate to using the Files app in iOS 13.

The new library will offer numerous performance and feature enhancements and as a result is recommended for all users.
